Beach House

Norway

I have been obsessive-compulsively listening to ‘Norway’.  A dreamy pop melody sung by a voice that seems mysteriously androgynous and completely captivating.

The voice belongs to Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally is the other half of Beach House – an alluring duo hailing from Baltimore.  An indie pop band that existed since 2004 that I only recently discovered and feel compelled to learn more about.

Hypnotic, mesmerizing, seductive and heavy- hearted ballads seem to be what Beach house does best. The feeling of the warmth of Spring obliterating Winters dreary chill permeates every song I’ve heard thus far and the desire to bask in the welcoming glow is too inviting to ever refuse.  I just want to drift and lose myself in the hypnotic lull of Legrand’s voice.

This particular song is very calming and soothing.  Stirs up wistful desires and a longing to escape to anywhere more beautiful than here.   Never considered the nostalgic or overly romantic and sentimental type, but if I were this would be the band that spurred my transition. Quite simply Beach House is music that propels you to fall in love while it plays as you lie in bed beside the one you love. ‘Take Care’ is especially sweet with lines like “I’ll take care of you, if you ask me too” which are simple yet the musical arrangement and melody pulls you in.

I struggled with the meaning of the lyrics before I came to the conclusion that it really doesn’t matter.  All that matters is the feeling you get once you listen.
